Wireless remote control of DSLR Cameras for photo & video
The CamRanger allows almost complete, wireless remote control your Canon or Nikon DSLR camera directly from your iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC. The CamRanger is particularly suitable for difficult areas to access or camera installation to avoid any distraction by the photographer, for example photography of animals. With Live View and Touch Focus an amazingly accurate focusing is possible, which among other situations is very useful for macro shots. You can use the various functions of the CamRanger also for video recording. The Client Mode of the CamRanger software allows direct result presentation during weddings or studio shootings. The CamRanger consists of a Wi-Fi dongle and a free software.
CamRanger Wi-Fi dongle for Canon & Nikon DSLR
The CamRanger Wi-Fi dongle is a standalone device that is connected via the supplied USB cable to Canon or Nikon DSLR cameras. The dongle creates an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network, the iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC can be connected to. The free CamRanger software allows wireless control of your camera. No additional computer or Internet access is required.
CamRanger software to control your camera with Live View
Use your iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC with the CamRanger software to control your Canon or Nikon DSLR camera. Adjust the settings of your camera (focus, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, exposure adjustment, etc.) easily with your iOS device. Benefit from the unique Live View function for preview and immediate monitoring of results in full resolution. Other features such as depth of field extension (Focus stacking), high contrast (HDR), Time Lapse and long exposure (bulb) boost your creativity. The app is clearly structured and has an intuitive user interface. Firmware update with new functions (01.01.2014)
From now on CamRanger offers a firmware update to the version 6 for all CamRanger devices. This unlocks new functions (Share, Wi-Fi Join, Time Lapse improvements) and allows the use of the CamRanger PT Hub. The firmware update can be performed on a Mac and a Windows computer. The exact procedure is described in the corresponding video.
Transmission to multiple devices with CamRanger Share (firmware version 6)
With the new firmware, it is now possible to distribute the Live View (photo & video) and the display of photos over the CamRanger to multiple iOS devices. It is sufficient for the additional devices to have the CamRanger Share app installed. Theoretically it would work with up to 50 devices. However, there are practical limits as well that are dependent on the scenario. Every additional device will add a delay for sharing an image (depending on the file size). Similarly sharing video live view will decrease the frame rate. Also if there are some clients with a weak signal it will decrease performance further. The CamRanger Share app can be downloaded in the Apple App Store for free. Unfortunately, an Android version is not yet available.
Use of existing Wi-Fi networks with Wi-Fi Join (firmware version 6)
For full flexibility anywhere the CamRanger has an independent Wi-Fi onboard. But when a WLAN is already available, it may be useful (depending on the situation) to use it right away. With Wi-Fi Join it is possible to choose another Wi-Fi within the CamRanger App to communicate with the device.
Time Lapse improvements (firmware version 6)
Regarding the Time Lapse function of the CamRanger the improvements include a feedback and the possibility to cancel an existing sequence.
CamRanger PT Hub and Motorized Tripod Head MP-360 (firmware version 6)
With the new firmware the CamRanger is also prepared for use with the CamRanger PT Hub and the Motorized Tripod Head MP-360. The CamRanger PT Hub is a novelty of CamRanger allowing to control the Motorized Tripod Head MP-360 via the familiar CamRanger app. When connecting the CamRanger PT Hub an additional tab in the CamRanger app has several controls for the complete wireless remote control of the Motorized Tripod Head MP-360. This results in conjunction with the existing functions of the CamRangers in a complete remote control of the camera for photo and video. In addition to previously impossible camera line-ups for photo shoots and perfect panning shots for video recording, automation features allow automatic panorama and moving time lapse.

View image in real time (Live View) for photo & video
The unique Live View function allows the wireless transmission of the view finder shown in real time on your iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC. Additionally, it is possible to activate a histogram display to directly adjust the camera settings. The Live View works also when shooting video, with a transfer rate of 6-18 frames per second (depending on the camera and the connection) is achieved, which works amazingly well.
Focusing on the screen (Touch Focus)
With the Live View, the sharpness can be easily and absolutely precisely controlled remotely on your iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC. A simple tap/klick on the desired location of the picture is sufficient. For a perfect control of the sharpness it the desired position can be increased with a double tap/klick by 100%. The sharpness can also be changed with three different levels gradually. The sharpness control via Touch Focus or scale pattern is possible even during video recording (not supported by all cameras).
Immediate picture control in full resolution
After taking a photo the thumbnail of the photo is automatically downloaded to the CamRanger software. A tap/klick on the thumbnail and the photo in full resolution, including meta-data is downloaded. For further details the picture can be enlarged with a double tap/klick by 100%. To use the entire screen, you can set a full-screen mode. As a further aid a number of advanced display options can be activated. The quality of the photos is dependent from the selected camera settings (JPG, JPEG + RAW, RAW). It is also possible to let the photos automatically show immediately after each release, which works very smoothly as evidenced of the high speed of data transmission.
Direct image comparison for up to 4 photos
The latest CamRanger software version allows the direct comparison of up to 4 photos. To do this simply choose up to 4 of thumbnails and click the button "Compare", so that the selected photos are displayed side by side. You can independently zoom (including pinch zoom) and pan on each image.
Rating and comment function
For the perfect workflow each photo can be rated with a 3 star review system and a comment can be entered additionally. In the settings of the software you can also activate the function that all rated photos are displayed in a list. So you have direct access to all the photos you have marked.
Protection through watermarking
To protect your photos in a variety of situations, you will find numerous options in the settings menu to add automatically a watermark to the images.
Advanced display options
For the recording and control of the photos different display modes of CamRanger software can be activated. Aspect ratio can be chosen and grid lines can be displayed. Furthermore, under- and/or overexposed areas can be highlighted and the selected focus point can be displayed. With the client mode, it is possible to use your iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC only to present the photos (even with automatically and in full screen).
Advanced release modes
The CamRanger software offers in addition to the camera's shutter release modes following functions: depth extension (Focus stacking), high contrast (HDR), Time Lapse and long exposure (bulb). Focus stacking is effective for taking a series of pictures with a predefined, stepwise change of focus settings, to edit a photo with extended depth of field results (very interesting in the macro range). The HDR mode allows you to record a series of images with different exposures, which can be combined in retrospect to a photo with extended dynamic range. For the time lapse and bulb mode, the iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC does not need to be connected all the time with the CamRanger dongle.
Controlling the camera settings
The CamRanger software allows wireless remote control of the following camera features: shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity, metering mode, drive mode, white balance, image-recording quality, AF mode (Nikon), AE mode (Nikon), exposure compensation, exposure bracketing, AF/Manual focus (via software).
Access to the camera memory card
Basically, the photos are always stored on the memory card of the camera. Only by tapping the thumbnail a copy is downloaded into the CamRanger App. Additionally, you can view the contents of the memory card of the camera can (including JPG and RAW), marked to delete photos on the memory card or download to your iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC.
Independent WLAN with long range
The ad-hoc Wi-Fi network of the CamRanger dongle has a range of about 50 meters. Even up to 100 meters could be tested with a slow connection. The range depends on the obstacles and the nature and form of the building. As password serves the serial number of the CamRanger dongle and therefore does not need to be memoried.
Long battery life
The CamRanger dongle is powered by a rechargeable, removable battery. The battery is charged via the included USB charging cable. The battery life is 3-6 hours under normal conditions and up to 11 hours when using the Time Lapse or Bulb function (without connection to iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPad Touch) or Android device as well as Mac and PC).
Protective pouch for attaching the CamRanger dongle
It comes with a protective neoprene pouch. The bag features a loop and a carabiner for easy attachment of the CamRanger dongle on camera tripod, camera strap or belt loop. A second compartment allows the placement of the charging cable, extra batteries and other accessories.
Future-proof with firmware updates
The CamRanger dongle has a LAN port, with which future improvements can be adopted as a firmware update.
